However have you realized that microfiber couches attract dust to your clean, microfiber couch as efficiently as it hooks up dirt? This needn’t imply that it’s difficult maintaining your furniture. You just need to know the right methods how to clean a microfiber sofa.

If you wonder what to clean your sofa with, take a look at its label. An ‘A’ indicates water so that you can use a water-based cleaner and an ‘S’ means solvent, so use a solvent-based cleaner. Labels with an ‘S-W’ mean you can use either water or solvent-based cleaner while ‘X’ means you can only vacuum your suede couch, and not use either water or solvent. In case there’s no label, it’s safer to avoid water while cleaning your furniture. (source)

Different cleaning methods

Start the cleaning process by vacuuming with your carpet cleaner’s upholstery attachment to remove as much loose dirt as possible.

  • In the case of a ‘W’ sofa, mix some dish detergent or a spoonful laundry detergent in a bucket of cold water. Dip and wring a rag and rub off any dirt on the sofa. Next, use a hair dryer on its lowest setting to dry the water as water should never stand on the fiber. Vacuum again once the couch is dry to restore its nap.
  • In the case of an ‘S’ sofa, scatter some laundry detergent on the stained parts and brush it into the fiber using a soft-bristle brush and vacuum off. In the case of stubborn stains, apply some rubbing alcohol or dry cleaning solvent and leave for 5 minutes. Blot off using an absorbent cloth and brush with a soft-bristled brush to restore the sofa’s nap.
  • In the case of ‘X’ sofas, loosen all the dirt and dust using a soft-bristled brush and vacuum with the brush attachment. Though it’s tempting to use harsh chemicals to clean stubborn stains, don’t as it can severely damage your fiber.

No matter what type of couch you may have, you need to start cleaning unobtrusively and grow aggressive if needed. If you are using a new cleaner, it’s safer to try it somewhere concealed to ensure it’s safe for your suede couch.

Tips worth remembering

  • Maintain a habit of vacuuming your microfiber sofa every week or fortnight. Use your machine’s brush attachment and don’t press it too hard on the fabric.
  • Never use bleach to clean or remove stains as it not only fades the fabric but also breaks down its filaments.
  • If you use a hair dryer to dry your couch, set it at a low setting as its fiber can melt with high heat.
  • Don’t use acetones like nail polish removers as they dissolve the plastic in microfibers.
